Stop Buying Refurbished Gas Cylinders From Unscrupulous People – Firefighters Warn
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has warned the public against buying refurbished liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders from unscrupulous people.
The Service wants Ghanaians to be safety conscious and cautious when buying such bottles.
According to him, some infamous people abrasively repaired spoiled cylinders and brought them to the market to sell.
“GNFS has observed with concern the nefarious activities of some unscrupulous people who go (sometimes to landfills) to collect or cheaply buy damaged or old and used LPG cylinders.”
“These bottles are repaired (treated abrasively and adhesively, and the torn metal pans welded together), pulverized and released to the open market for sale and use by the unsuspecting public,” the Service warned in a statement.
The GNFS added that this act is not only illegal, criminal and dangerous.
He insisted that these bottles also run the risk of rupture which could lead to injuries, loss of life and explosion in fire.
“The GNFS therefore advises the general public to always seek manufacturer details – cylinder serial number, weight class, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) number, test pressure and in particular the date of manufacture. on the cylinder body when buy LPG cylinders in the market.
“Purchase of LPG cylinders should be made only from registered or authorized dealers to ensure the safety of lives in homes and workplaces,” the fire department’s cautionary statement added.
