Women Driving Business Lunch and Forum
On Friday, October 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Houston West Chamber of Commerce presents Women Driving Business: Afternoon Lunch & Forum – Recharge YOUR Energy. The full-day event will be held at the Norris conference centers at CityCentre. One of the highlights of the lunch will be keynote speaker Holly Clapham, chief marketing officer of Houston First Corporation. After lunch and the opening speech, registrants can choose three of the four breakout sessions to attend based on their personal interests. Conversations with artists, MFAH
The virtual lecture series continues with Ellen Lesperance and Teresa Margolles
Live via Zoom on Monday October 11 at 6.30 p.m. to discuss contemporary art. Artist Ellen Lesperance speaks with Curator of Prints and Drawings Dena Woodall, followed by artist Teresa Margolles with Assistant Curator of Latin American Art Rachel Mohl. These works can be seen in the Collectivité installation on the third floor of the Kinder building.
Ability Exploration Day — Halloween
The Children’s Museum Houston is hosting an exclusive Halloween-themed event featuring the Houston Ballet, therapy dogs and more on Monday, October 11, starting at 10 a.m. the museum. The doors will be closed to the public. There will be no music and noise canceling headphones will be available. Food and drinks outside will be allowed (Fresh Café will be closed).
Registration is compulsory.

Redesign of the energy corridor
The Energy Corridor District will host a vision workshop for the Design and Streetscape Guidelines Project on Thursday, October 13. This is the second and last public workshop where residents will be able to give their opinion on the brand and identity of the important streetscapes of the energy corridor and characteristics of the public domain – sidewalks, lighting, cycle paths, green spaces, etc. The event will take place from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the covered outdoor patio in Watson Grisby Square. Houston ISD Board of Directors Meeting
The regular meeting of the Houston ISD Board of Directors will meet in the Board Auditorium, 4400 West 18th Street, Houston at 5:00 p.m. Education council meetings are broadcast live on Comcast 18 and Uverse 99 and also broadcast live on HoustonISD.org/livetv. Houston Symphony and macabre music for Halloween
The Houston Symphony is celebrating Halloween this year with a weekend of performances of Hector Berlioz’s macabre masterpiece, the Fantastic Symphony. This month’s classic subscription concerts feature Berlioz’s famous symphonic ride, as well as the return of Dame Jane Glover and Italian conductor Jader Bignamini to the podium at Jones Hall, and solo flute Aralee Dorough and solo bassoon Rian Craypo introduce themselves to perform soloist roles. Trick or Treat in the Nature District at the Houston ArBOOretum & Nature Center
Grab the costumes and get the kids together for the Houston Arboretum’s biggest family event of the year, ArBOOretum, scheduled for Saturday, October 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and featuring fun activities for all ages. Among these are a petting zoo, pony rides, pumpkin decorations, and Houston’s only Trick-or-Treat Nature Trail. Activities include train rides, pumpkin decorating, a petting zoo, pony rides, Halloween market, pumpkin patch and rock face. Food trucks will also be on hand to keep guests well fed and hydrated. Tickets are free for members and children under three; $ 15 for non-members with online purchase before October 23; $ 20 the day of the event (3 years old and over). Tickets can be purchased in advance online at houstonarboretum.org. The Arboretum is located at 4501 Woodway Drive, Houston.
Houston Arboretum Hosts Annual Fall Plant Sale
The Arboretum hosts its annual fall plant sale with a number of Texas natives on display, including perennial and annual wildflowers (including milkweed), herbs, shrubs, and trees. Some of the plants on offer this year include scarlet sage, swamp sunflower and goldenrod. The sale begins Friday at 9 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m. The Saturday schedule is the same from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit their website at www.houstonarboretum.org the week before the plant sale for a full list of available plants. All proceeds from the sale of plants go to the Arboretum’s conservation and education efforts. The Arboretum is located at 120 West Loop North in Houston (between Post Oak Blvd. and Woodway Drive). Scream on the Green at Discovery Green
Come in costume to impress at the Houston Citywide Scream on the Green Halloween Celebration at Discovery Green on Saturday, October 30 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission, as always, is free and open to the public.
