Israeli elections could delay purchase of Sikorsky’s CH-53K helicopters

Israel’s controversial political environment may delay the acquisition of 12 CH-53K helicopters from Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft.

According to a report by Israel Ynet News, the Israeli Air Force last year signed an agreement to purchase 12 CH-53K helicopters. The purchase would have taken place earlier, but the country’s recurring parliamentary elections – four legislative elections between 2019 and 2021 – delayed the deal. Israel was due to receive the first shipment of helicopters in 2026.

However, the acquisition is contingent on a separate deal that has yet to be signed and will need to be approved by the Knesset committee and a standing government – a situation that is in jeopardy as Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s government has called to new elections after failing to secure a government coalition. The Knesset is expected to dissolve this week, and new elections will be held in the fall. https://www.ynetnews.com/article/bj1i11z89q
